Columbine Label Company, based in Centennial,CO, USA, leads the state’s narrow web converting industry in environmental consciousness by becoming the its only label manufacturing facility to obtain TLMI LIFE certification.

LIFE (Label Initiative for the Environment) is an audited environmental certification process tailored specifically to the label and package printing and converting industry. It is designed to assist the TLMI (Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute) members in finding cost effective ways to reduce their company’s environmental footprint and document their commitment to sustainability. 

Along with improving the facility’s electrical energy efficiency by 17.6%, natural gas efficiency by 9.1%, and water usage by 15.8%, the company also minimized its VOC emissions by 18.4%. “Environmental awareness has become a culture in our company. In just one year, our recycling program helped minimize the amount of solid waste we sent to Colorado’s landfills by 53,290 pounds. This is a significant value for us. We also look at the raw materials we bring in with 11% being Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, as well as materials made from recycled content and, although difficult to find, at least one material made from 100% post-consumer waste,” says President Greg Jackson. “This is a process for which we have committed to life-long (pun intended) continual improvement.”
